So, the management may be forgiven for the one it introduced yesterday. Then, too, the offense was made bearable by two rather well-done movies. One is a psychological drama on the theme of bitterness with Ultimate vengeance as the objective. It is entitled "Cry Vengeance" end it was made in and around San Francisco and Alaska. It is the story of a police officer who has spent three years in San Quentin for a crime he did not commit but which an underworld character framed up on him.

When the cop gets out of prison, seeking the man he thinks framed him, he finds he is in Alaska. There the officer goes and that's where he finds that his revenge is misplaced. The most interesting thing about this film is that Mark Stevens not only plays the police officer but also directed the picture. Stevens does quite a good job with both assignments. Although the picture is essentially one of violence, Stevens has used commendable restraint.

His actual nemesis is a sad*stic henchman of the man who engineered the officer's misfortune. isf since his terrifying little Nazi in "Tomorrow, The World," has gradually developed into a portrayer of adult stinkers. Skippy must often be afraid of himself! While not distinguished by well-known players other than Skippy and Stevens, "Cry Vengeance" has a very capable supporting cast. "Shotgun," the second feature. of this program, is generally a routine story of a deputy marshal who is after an outlaw. It has the advantage of excellent Technicolor that has recorded some lovely Western scenery effectively.

Predicated on an unusual situation a duel with shotguns each loaded with one shell the picture builds to this incident and ends with conventional romantic baloney. Sterling Hayden, Zachary Scott, Yvonne De Carlo, and Guy iPrescott are the main performers in "Shotgun" and all do quite Lesley Selander's direction keeps the story taut. 3 Youngsters In 'Kidnappers9 Give Beguiling Performances i4 fA: THE TORRID, TERRIFYING STORY OF THE BIG COMBO IS BEYOND IMAGINATION! rather bigoted they are solid THRILL The Crescent introduced another interesting J. Arthur Rank movie last night. It is "The Little Kidnappers" and its stars re two very unusual boy actors, Jon Whitley and Vincent Winter, as two Canadian waifs who "appropriate a Dutch baby as their pet.

Despite the title, this is no film on juvenile delinquency. It is a rather unusual and charming story of almost primitive life in the backwoods of Nova Scotia. Then, too, the beguiling performances of the three children are fascinating to watch. They certainly have been caught at their natural best.

They do not seem to have been conscious of the camera at all.
