Ingredients

These yogurt parfait ingredients are simple and easily tweaked depending on what you have on hand or what you like. Here are the building blocks to start with.

Ingredient Notes:

  • Yogurt – I used vanilla Greek yogurt but you can choose what you like. A healthy option would be plain Greek yogurt. You can always stir in a little honey.
  • Fruit – Use what you have! I prefer a combo of fresh berries. I recommend dicing them up if they are big. Strawberries and blueberries tend to hold up best over a few days.
  • Granola – I recommend using our Simple Homemade Granola. Store bought granola will work fine as well. I like Kind Oats and Honey Granola or Bear Naked Vanilla Almond Crisp Granola for all-natural versions.
  • Optional Add-Ins – Play with it! Add chia seeds, almonds, pecans, shredded coconut, walnuts, flaxseed, your favorite cereal, etc. Chia seeds can be added prior to storing. I’d recommend adding other ingredients right before eating.

How to Prep Make Ahead Yogurt Parfaits

  1. Gather 8-ounce mason jars. You can use bigger sized ones if that’s what you have.
  2. Layer yogurt and fruit. Start with a scoop of yogurt. Then add the fruit and repeat layers.
  3. Store the yogurt parfaits. They will be good 3-4 days in the fridge.
  4. Top with homemade granola right before eating. The granola will become soggy if you store it in the jar so you need to add it right before you eat the parfait.

How to Store Yogurt Parfaits

When properly stored in an airtight container, yogurt parfaits can typically last in the fridge for up to 3 to 4 days, making them a great on-the-go snack.

However, the longevity can vary depending on the freshness of the ingredients used and any additional toppings or mix-ins.

Make sure to not add granola prior to storing. It will get soggy.

FAQs

How far in advance can I prepare yogurt parfaits?

Yogurt parfaits can typically be prepared up to 3 to 4 days in advance when stored properly in the refrigerator.

Can I freeze yogurt parfaits?

While yogurt parfaits are best enjoyed fresh, you can freeze them for longer storage. However, freezing may affect the texture of certain ingredients, such as fresh fruits. In short, we wouldn’t recommend it.

Can I use frozen berries in place of the fresh berries?

Frozen berries will work for this, but I don’t personally love the texture after they have thawed. Plus, it adds a lot of liquid to the make ahead parfaits. However, my kids have eaten them this way many times and don’t seem too bothered by it. So, it’s up to you!

  1. In 4 small mason jars or 2-cup Pyrex containers, add 1/4 cup yogurt per container.
  2. Top each container with 1/4 cup berries.
  3. Repeat these layers again. There should be a little room on top for add-ins later.
