Disasters and conflicts can leave a severe psychosocial impact on individuals and communities. Early psychosocial support is important to help affected persons cope with tragedies.

Singapore Red Cross Academy provides training to help heal psychological wounds and rebuild social structures in affected individuals and communities after emergencies. Graduates of Psychosocial Support courses will be fully adept at planning activities that can reduce psychosocial vulnerabilities, and ultimately enhance community resilience.

Class Information

Psychological First Aid provides the learners with basic knowledge and skills in helping individuals affected by crises in life. The course covers signs of stress and different coping skills; and teaches the participants how to recognise signs of suicide thoughts. Getting trained in psychological first aid enables an individual to provide an emotional lift for someone in distress.

PFA is for anyone who wants to provide support to persons who are in distress due to crisis situations or stressful everyday situations, whether at home or work.

  • Based on World Health Organization Standard.
  • Endorsed by the Danish Red Cross with support from the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) Reference Centre for Psychosocial Support.

Certificate issued upon completion of the course is valid for two years from date of issue.

Advanced Psychological First Aid (APFA)is an enhanced and specialized approach to providing immediate support and assistance to individuals who have experienced significant emotional distress and complex reactions. Participants will learn about Loss and Grief and learn how to apply the principles of PFA to support someone experiencing such reactions.

There will be an assessment at the end of the 2 day course. Completion of Psychological First Aid is a prerequisite.

Certificate issued upon completion of the course is valid for two years from date of issue.

In partnership with the Samaritans of Singapore (SOS), thePsychological First Aid + Be a Samaritan Programme (PFA + BAS) course equips learners with the basic knowledge and skills to help individuals affected by crises in life as well as suicide prevention skills.

PFA+ BAS is for anyone who wants to provide support to persons who are in distress due to crisis situations or stressful everyday situations, whether at home or work.

Workplace Mental Health is a training program that focuses on providing individuals with the knowledge and skills to implement a mental health support framework to promote mental well-being in the workplace. The program is designed to teach participants how to recognize and respond to psychosocial hazards, such as workplace stress, burnout, bullying, and harassment.


The course covers a range of topics, including mental health and well-being, resilience and conflict resolution. Participants learn how to provide support and assistance to colleagues who may be experiencing mental health challenges or difficult life situations.


The program is recommended for human resource leaders, or personnel overseeing occupational health and safety, or management roles.

Prerequisites

Completion of Red Cross Psychological First Aid is highly recommended.

The training is suited for persons who are looking to communicate effectively and influence stakeholders or looking to improve communication within the organisation.

The Wellbeing First Responder course equips students with foundational knowledge about mental health promotion as well as practical stress management skills. Learners will gain hands-on experience using active listening, empathy, and psychological first aid techniques to support colleagues with mental health needs in the workplace through interactive learning, case studies, and role-playing exercises.
