KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — Billy Amick hit a grand slam homerun, Tennessee left the ballpark four times and batted .333 as a team en route to an 12-6 win over Indiana in the Knoxville Regional of the NCAA Tournament. Even before Amick’s grand slam in the third, Dean Curley and Christian Moore each hit two-run homers in the second to give Tennessee a 4-0 lead. Devin Taylor hit a three-run homer for the Hoosiers in the bottom of the third to reduce their deficit to 9-3.

LEXINGTON, Ky. (AP) — Ryan Nicholson put Kentucky ahead to stay with a two-run home run in the second inning, Ryan Walkschmidt added a two-run shot and an RBI double, and Trey Pooser tossed seven stellar innings to lead the No. 2 national seed to a 6-1 victory over Illinois at the Lexington Regional. Illinois (35-20) will play an elimination game against Indiana State (43-14) on Sunday. Kentucky (42-14) will play the winner. If the Wildcats lose, a third game will be played on Monday to decide the championship and which team will be heading to a super regional.

UNDATED (AP) — Grand Canyon and Evansville put two national seeds on the brink of elimination from the NCAA regionals. The Lopes won a game in the national tournament for the first time in the program's short Division I history and the Purple Aces got a victory in their first appearance since 2006. Grand Canyon made the short trip to Tucson and beat No. 13 Arizona 9-4 and it was no fluke. The Lopes won two of three against the Wildcats during the regular season. Evansville knocked off No. 16 East Carolina 4-1.

STILLWATER, Okla. (AP) — Ashton Wilson doubled three times and hit his first home run for Florida, and the Gators opened the NCAA Stillwater Regional with a 5-2 victory over Nebraska. Wilson made just his fifth start of the season, all since May 16, after transferring from Charleston Southern. His two-run double in the third gave the Gators the lead for good, and his homer in the ninth put them up three runs. Freshman starter Liam Peterson allowed two runs over 5 1/3 innings. Big Ten pitcher of the year Brett Sears took his first loss after giving up three runs in five innings.

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — Brock Tibbitts had three hits, including a two-run home run and two-run double, and the Indiana Hoosiers routed the two-time Sun Belt Conference-champion Southern Mississippi Golden Eagles 10-4 in their NCAA Division I baseball tournament opening game. Morgan Colopy had a home run and double to drive in three runs for the Hoosiers (33-24-1), who led 8-0 through five innings and defeated Southern Miss for the first time in five meetings. Nick Monistere finished 2 for 5, including a two-run home run in the sixth, for second-seeded Southern Miss. Starter Billy Oldham (7-3) took the loss in giving up seven runs on 11 hits through 3 2/3 innings.

CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) — The NCAA and a coalition of states suing the organization have announced a proposed settlement of a lawsuit that would allow athletes to play immediately no matter how many times they transfer. Under the agreement, a preliminary injunction issued by a federal judge in West Virginia allowing multiple-transfer athletes to compete would be made permanent. It comes a month after the NCAA fast-tracked legislation to fall in line with the judge's December injunction. Under the agreement, athletes who were previously deemed ineligible under the transfer rule since the 2019-20 academic year would be given an extra year of eligibility. Athletes would still be required to meet academic requirements.

DESTIN, Fla. (AP) — Southeastern Conference Commissioner Greg Sankey said frustration over slow decision-making processes by the College Football Playoff and NCAA led him to suggest the SEC and Big Ten try to tackle some issues. Sankey wrapped up SEC meetings in Florida by saying big problems often need smaller groups of people to be solved. He said Division I, with its 352 members bounds together by March Madness basketball, can work. But the smaller schools in Division I need to recognize there are different pressures in the conferences at the top.

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) — Three power conferences have joined the Atlantic Coast Conference in urging a Tallahassee court to keep the league’s TV deals with ESPN private. The Big Ten, the Big 12 and the Southeastern Conference filed a joint request in Leon County Circuit Court this week supporting the ACC’s claim that the documents must remain confidential to protect trade secrets. The filing was a response to Florida Attorney General Ashley Moody’s complaint last month. Moody accused the ACC of breaking Florida’s public records law by not providing a copy of the league’s TV contracts. Those documents are potentially relevant in ongoing lawsuits between Florida State and the ACC as the Seminoles consider leaving the league.
