Born in Bland, he was a son of the late Newton and Maple Byrd Neel. He was a member of the Mt. Olive United Methodist Church. He was a former co owner of Kitts and Neel Auto Repair and was employed by McCann Motors as an auto mechanic at the time of his death.

Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Maggie L. Neel; one daughter, Mrs. Winifrey McCann of Tazewell; one son, Buford Neel of Tazewell; three sisters, Mrs. Addie Lawson of Fairmont, Mrs.

Larue Fox of Richmond, and Mrs. Gladys Gregorv of Mt. Vernon, OH; two brothers, Raeburn Neel of Bluefield and William Neel of Bluefield, VA; three half sisters, Mrs. Mary Stowers, Mrs. Georgia Durham and Mrs.

Edith Blankenship, all of Bluefield, VA; two half brothers, Freddie and Edward Neel, both of Bluefield, VA; four grandchildren; and one greatgreat-grandchild. Funeral services were conducted Sunday, April 25, at 2:30 p.m. at Peery and St. Clair Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Robert Smith, Rev.

Joe McCoy and Rev. Max Linkous officiating. Burial followed in Grandview Memory Gardens on Bluefield-Tazewell Road. MRS. TAYLOR BOWMAN Mrs.

Taylor (Marjirie Gertrude) Bowman, 77, of P.O. Box 508, Madison Heights, died Tuesday afternoon April 20 in a Lynchburg hospital after a long illness. Born in Tazewell County, she was a daughter of the late Wade and Imogene Creed Pruett. Survivors include one son, Garland Bowman of Madison Heights; one stepdaughter, Margaret Hardy of Mesa, AZ; five brothers, Therman and Homer Pruett, both of Mansfield, OH, Jack Pruetta Me of Van Wert, OH, Bill Pruett of Bandy, and Joe of Sparta, OH; three sisters, Mrs. Elmer (Thelma) Davis of Boissevain, Mrs.

Avery Sparks of Cedar Bluff and Mrs. Daisy French of Warren Robins, GA; three grandchildren, two stepgrandchildren and five stepgreat grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, three sisters, and two brothers. Funeral services were conducted Friday April 23 at 2 pm at the RodriguezPocahontas Union Funeral Home in Pocahontas with the Rev. Orville Cox officiating.

Burial followed in Maple Hill Cemetery in Bluefield. Rodriguez-Pocahontas Union Funeral Home in Pocahontas was in charge of the arrangements. CLAY SANFORD Clay H. Sanford, 67, of Bluefield WV, died Sunday night, April 25 in a Bluefield hospital after a long illness. He was a native of Bluefield and was a son of the late Charles H.

and Melinda D. Sanford. He was a retired foreman for Corte Construction and was a member of the Church of God in Bluefield VA. Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Pauline Gilbert Sanford; three daughters, Mrs.

Linda Sanford Lester and Mrs. Helen Covey, both of Bluefield and Mrs. Nancy Duncan of Bluefield VA; two sons, Clay H. Sanford, Jr. of Brandywine MD and James Gilbert of Bluefield; nine grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, April 28, at 2 D.m. at Mercer Funeral Home Chapel in Bluefield with Rev. K.B. Arnold officiating. Burial followed in Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Princeton WV.

MRS. JAMES LOCKHART Mrs. James (Mary Jane Simpkins) Lockhart, 78, of Rocky Gap, died Monday, April 19, in a Richlands hospital after a long illness. Survivors include four daughters, Mrs. Lottie Dillow of Coatesville, PA, Mrs.

Jean Neal of Rocky Gap, Mrs. Dixie Paris of Farmington, MI, and Mrs. Nellie Yost of Charlotte, NC; four sons, Ira Lockhart of Bluefield, Benny Lockhart of Rocky Gap, Chap Lockhart of Monroe, LA, and Bobby Lockhart of Middlesboro, KY; one sister, Mrs. Clara Gillespie of Marshall, VA; one brother, Ed Simpkins of Tazewell; 21 grandchildren; 16 greatgrandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1966.

Funeral services were conducted Thursday, April 22, at 2 p.m. at the Clear Fork Baptist Church in Rocky Gap with Rev. R.T. Newton officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

LAWRENCE WHITT Funeral services for Lawrence 0. Whitt, 47. of Chillcothe, OH, formerly of Bandy, who was dead on arrival Monday, April 19, at Chillcothe hospital after an apparent heart attack, were conducted Thursday, April 22, at 2 p.m. at Peery St. Clair Funeral Home Chapel in Tazewell.

Rev. Bruce Burkes officiated at the services. Burial followed in Greenhills Memory Gardens at Claypool Hill. A native of Tazewell County, he was the son of Howard and Pearl Hunt Whitt of Cleveland, OH. Survivors in addition to his parents include one son, Larry Whitt of Cleveland; one step-daughter, Mrs.

Cindy Cable of Dayton; two sisters, Mrs. Dolis Ann Adams of Cleveland and Mrs. Lois Parsons of North Tazewell; three brothers, Leo Whitt of Prince George, VA, Roy Lee Whitt of Cleveland and Troy Ray Whitt of Dayton. He was preceded in death by his Mrs. Geneva Mae Pallbearers: Steve Whitt, Dennis Parsons, Tony Parsons, Ralph Short, Keith Crockett and Robert Adams.

MRS. ALBERT HILL Mrs. Albert L. (Mary Jane) Hill, 91, of Tazewell, died Tuesday morning, April 20, in a Tazewell hospital after a short illness. Born in Buchanan County, she was a daughter of the late John and Sarah Brown Hill.

Survivors include two sons, James H. Hill of Tazewell and Raymond Hill of Springville; two daughters, Mrs. Bertha Crouse of Cedar Bluff and Mrs. Gracie Griffith of Raven; three brothers, Paul Hill of Tazewell, Tommy and George Hill, both of Pounding Mill; one sister, Mrs. Millie Quesenberry of Tazewell; 11 grandchildren; 20 greatgrandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, three sons and one daughter. Funeral services were conducted Thursday, April 22, at 11 a.m. at Peery St. Clair Funeral Home Chapel in Tazewell with Rev. David Bailey officiating.

Burial followed in Witten Valley Cemetery. Pallbearers: Robert Hill, Kenneth Crouse, Jackie Witten, Tom Murray, Don Keene, Danny Keene and Richie Grinstead. MRS. G.H. SLUSS Mrs.

G. Haskell (Eloise Sluss, 84, of the Asbury Acres Health Center in Maryville, TN, formerly of Bluefield, died Monday, in a Maryville hospital after a long illness. Born in Tazewell, she was a daughter of the late Jameson G. and Theresa Alexander Buston and had been a resident of Bluefield for 61 years. She was a charter member of the Westminster Presbyterian Church in Bluefield, where she was past superintendent of the Sunday School class and past president and life member of the Women of the Church.

She also was a past pastor's aid. She was preceded in death by her husband. Survivors include one daughter, Mrs. William R. Anderson of Bluefield; one son, H.

Diehl Sluss of Maryville; one sister, Mrs. William E. Spencer of Richmond; three grandchildren and three greatgrandchildren. Graveside services were conducted Thursday at 3 p.m. at Monte Vista Park Cemetery with Dr.

C.H. Patterson and Dr. Roger Gulick officiating. A memorial service also was held Thursday at 4 p.m. at the Westminster Presbyterian Church.

RUFUS LOONEY Rufus Frieland Looney, 62, of Bluefield, VA, died Thursday, April 22, in a Bluefield hospital after a long illness. Born in Bastian, he was a son of the late Crockett and Pricy Childress Looney. He had been employed by the Water Department of Bluefield, VA for 33 years, and had served in the U.S. Army during World War II. Survivors, Virginia include Harmon his Looney; four sons, Brian Looney of the home, and Michael, Allen and Kenny Looney, all of Bluefield, VA; two daughters, Cindy Looney of the home and Mrs.

Marc (Nancy) Turpin of Bluefield, VA; three brothers, Harless and Kent Looney, both of Bastian, and Marvin Looney of Athens; two sisters, Mrs. J.H. (Margaret) Harmon of Bluefield, VA and Mrs. Stewart (Lucille) Thomlinson of Orlando, FL; and three grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one son, Joseph Looney.

Funeral services were conducted Saturday, April 24, at 2 p.m. in the Dudley Memorial Mortuary in Bluefield, with Rev. Leroy Beckner and Rev. Evelyn Thomas officiating. Burial followed in Grandview Memory Gardens at Bluefield, VA.

(Jamie St. Clair, 92, of 418 Pickett Lane, Herndon, a former Mercer County resident, died in a Herndon hospital Thursday morning April 22 after a long illness. She was born at Elgood and was a daughter of the late William and Pethelia Wiley Thompson. She was preceded in death by her husband. Survivors include four sons, Bernard "Bum" St.

Clair of Pittsburg, PA, Billy St. Clair of Scorborow, Paul St. Clair of Herndon and Perry St. Clair of Culpepper; four daughters, Mrs. Polly Alvis of Bluefield, Mrs.

Eloise Dray of Circlesville, OH, Mrs. Lucille Nuckolls and Mrs. Sylvia Sprinkle, both of Kernersville, NC; three sisters, Mrs. Laura Dent of Glen Lyn, Mrs. Lillie Mae Sizemore of Glen Rogers and Mrs.

Grace Marfield of Honaker; and four brothers, Walter Holdren of Wheeling, Clyde Holdren of Radford, Donald Holdren of Rich Creek and Kenny Holdren of Glen Lyn. Thirty-one grandchildren and 38 great grandchildren also survive. Funeral services were conducted Sunday April 25 at 2 pm at Burns Wornal Chapel of Memorial Funeral Directory on the Athens Road in Princeton with Rev. K.B. Arnold officiating.
